}1^Rip Off AT&T^
{1^AT&T^ (American Telephone and
Telegraph) is {5America's {1largest {5`phone
company {1and consequently the {3biggest
phone company in the {1World.
{6The fact that {1AT&T {6is a 'phone company
is enough to get most people
interested in ripping them off, I
think that virtually ^everyone^ wants
to when they first find out they're
{1A{2M{3E{1R{2I{3C{1A{2N{3!
{7Connection to an {1AT&T {7operator is a
{4toll-free {7`phone call away in most
countries. The number is used for a
service called `{5US Dial Direct{7' which
can also be used to make {4calls{7
using ^other^ ^people's^ accounts!
( A bit like when some {2bastard {7uses
your credit card number to order stuff
over the `phone )
You need an {1AT&T {7number for this,
you can {4sometimes {7get one by ringing
an {1AT&T {7customer posing as an {1AT&T{7
employee, and asking for the number
for a `{3security check{7'.
Even if you can't get a {4card number{7,
it's quite fun to `phone them just
to {6slag them off {7and think how much
the connection to {2America's {7costing
them! I've even heard of people
going into `phone boxes, dialling
{1AT&T {7and leaving the `phone off the
hook all night, apparently {1AT&T {7can
disconnect the call from an {5operator{7
but can't disconnect it from the
{5switchboard {7({3oh dear.....{7) so whilst
most people are sleeping soundly, an
{1AT&T {7switchboard line is {2jammed {7and
they are paying a small fortune to
keep it that way. {4Life's a bitch.
{7After reading this, you're probably
wondering what the {4toll-free {7number
for {6your country {7is: here's a quick
run down with a few notez:
{1--------------------------------------
{6UNITED KINGDOM: {7If you're calling the
{1AT&T {7fascists from the {3land of hope
and glory{7, then the number you need is
{4(0800) 89 00 11{7, with no special call
considerations.
{1--------------------------------------
{6FRANCE: {7If you live in {3France {7then
dial {419#-0011{7. If you're using a
{5payphone {7then you'll have to insert a
coin to get the dialling tone, but
will not be charged for a free call.
{1--------------------------------------
{6NORWAY: {7If you live in {3Norway{7, then
your time is an hour ahead of us.
However that's not the point and you
should call {4050-12-011{7. Again, if
you choose to call from a {5`phonebox{7
you'll need to insert a coin to get
a dialling tone.
{1--------------------------------------
{6DENMARK: {7For the {3Danish{7, {1AT&T {7can be
reached again free, on {40420-0010{7. If
you use a {1payphone {7for your call you
will need to insert a coin to get a
dial-tone.
{1--------------------------------------
{6SWEDEN: If you're {3Swedish {7then dial
{4020-795-611{7. Again, if you haven't
shoved in a coin first you won't get
a dialling tone.
{1--------------------------------------
{6ITALY: {3Italians {7can get to {1AT&T {7on
{4172-1011{7. You'll have to stick a coin
in first if you're using a payphone,
and you'll find that if you speak to
them in {3Italian {7they'll get a little
confused.
{1--------------------------------------
{6NETHERLANDS: {7Right O. If you reside in
this windmill infested part of the
World which I must say is rather
beautiful (and I don't just mean the
women....) then dial {406#-022-9111{7.
`Phoneboxes in the {3Netherlands {7will
not give you a dialling tone unless
you throw in a coin.
{1--------------------------------------
{6AUSTRALIA: {7If you're living `down
under' you can call {1AT&T {7toll free on
{40014-881-011{7. You may be glad to know
that you don't even have to stick in
a coin before dialling.
{1--------------------------------------
{6GERMANY: {7This was operating on a {2trial
basis {7a while ago so whether or not it
is still running depends on it's
success then. Anyhow the number for
you guys is {40130-0010{7, and again, if
you intend using a payphone it's a
good idea to ram a coin down the slot
if you want the `phone to purr.
{1--------------------------------------
{6BELGIUM: {7In the land of {3Filmnet{7, you
can dial {411-0010 {7after first putting
a coin into the box.
{1--------------------------------------
{6FINLAND: {7Ok, you guys just put a coin
in first if you're using a payphone
and press the following sequence on
the pad: {49800-100-10{7.
{1--------------------------------------
{6AUSTRIA: {7You can get to {2US Dial direct
{7at {4022-903-011{7, but you'll have to
stick a coin in first.
{1--------------------------------------
{6HUNGARY: {7The small(ish) scene in
{3Hungary {7can reach {1AT&T at {400#-36-0111{7.
Shove a coin in first if you want to
dial from a {1`phonebox{7.
{1--------------------------------------
{5Well there you have it, how you can
reach the {2American {5slappers from your
nearest `phone. The foreign calling
information was taken from a textfile
from {4PHANTOM{5. Whoever you are man,
you have our regards.
Once through to {1America{5, you can
apparently dial {41-800-874-4000 Ext.328
{5for more information. I'm not sure
if this means that you can {4toll-free
{5other companies, but in case you can,
look out for the next issue of
{2SATANIC RITES {5where we will be
printing a series of {4toll-free {5numbers
of }2Amiga {5companies for you to call.
So give {1AT&T {5a call today and help
improve your country's balance of
trade with the {1Americans{5. Together,
we'll bankrupt {1America!
